However, as is the case with many conifer needle pathogens, that effect has a one-year delay. (2017) determined that an increase in precipitation during May to July - the time when white pine needles are elongating - positively correlates with damage from needle blight pathogens. The bases of needles can remain green, and not all needles in a bundle may get infected. The extent of damage for affected needles varies. Lesions or banding in older needles that develop into brown and yellow expanding areas can cause death to the distal part of the needle. Needle blight pathogens associated with WPND include the fungi Lecanosticta acicula, Lophophacidium dooksii (brown spot needle blight), Bifusella linearis, and Septorioides strobi. Hot sunny days with air pollution danger warnings can have the gas ozone damaging the needle tips. Photo credit: Rosie Lerner, Purdue University White pine decline symptoms include shriveling bark, oozing resin, or brown needles. Looking at the needles themselves, you may notice brown tips or entire needle discoloration of a disease complex known as White Pine Needle Disease or WPND. Distinguish this from the normal yellow coloration and drop of the oldest needles in the fall. White Pine Needle Diseaseīrowning needles and sparse tufts of new growth often signal the first obvious symptoms of an ailing white pine. Unless a needle cast disease as described below occurs, retain the fallen needles as a natural moisture and pH buffering mulch, or provide up to 3" of mulch up to the drip line for young, planted trees. White pine tolerate neither root disturbance, street-side planting requiring heavy winter salt maintenance, nor moisture extremes. Above ground canopy space would accommodate a 50 - 100-foot future height with 20 to 40-foot of spread and plenty of sun. Avoid those factors by siting your tree to succeed from the start! Proper soils for best growth includes sandy or loamy noncompacted soils (not clay), a pH between 5.5 and 6.5, and good drainage. Environmental factors leading to white pine decline include soil and moisture conditions white pine is not adapted to growing in. The result is a decline in the overall health of the tree. White pine decline refers to a complex of environmental and biotic factors negatively influencing both short- and long-term health of the plant. Due to its susceptibility to drought, air pollution, and salt, sometimes white pine requires special siting and care in an urban environment. Stroking its leaves can activate an immune response of T-cells in the human body. One mature white pine can intercept up to 4000 gallons of rainwater per year. White pine provides both important ecosystem benefits and enhances health. A popular landscape tree used for screening (although it naturally loses its bottom branches over time) and its delicate five needled bundle of fine-textured leaves. Widely distributed (10.6% of area), and the tallest of the eastern conifers, some consider white pine the Sequoia of the East. The Pine Tree Riot of 1772, where local townspeople chased and beat the King’s mast surveyors with pine switches may have even inspired the Boston Tea Party. Surveyors for the "King's Woods" blazed the largest white pines with the "King's Broad Arrow", a series of three hatchet slices. Once demanded by the King's Royal Navy for its straight tall masts, Pinus strobus inspired the White Pine Acts of 16 and fueled colonial resistance. Eastern white pine's current status belies its political past and potential future.

I have no other way to describe nodes in Lightworks as they are like that stubborn nephew with who the one has to have quite a lot of talk till the one gets a desired result. The question is, would it be possible to adapt some inspirations from Blender to characteristics of Lightworks nodes. Surprisingly Nodes in Blender are a lot more user friendly and I bet could be a good source of inspiration. Which logically should be there but is a nightmare to deal with. Even if the one needs just a simple swap of effect order, nodes in Lightworks may introduce some headaches, they usually come when pass through node is around. Is it because there is some sort of automation going on in Lightworks nodes or something, I don't know, but I always stress when have to deal with Lightworks nodes. In addition, with other node systems I have never seen such a stubborn character. However, imagine it was an advanced and complicated node tree with a big number of nodes. I understand the reason and purpose of the passthrough node, yet something in the way nodes work in Lightworks makes it unnecessary complicated during very simple tasks.Īnd usually it is better just to redo what the one is doing from scratch. Yes, the explanation above shows the situation very well. Hopefully Node system in Lightworks will get some revisions. And I am not new to nodes, don't have such problems in Blender, Resolve, Fusion, Natron, Houdini and that other now dead app from SGO, mamba FX or smth like that it was called. In Lightworks, on the other hand, nodes tend to be bonkers, they have mind of their own. That is the beauty of nodes, ultimate flexibility to redo the nodes at any time of your project. With node systems the one should be able to connect, reconnect and redesign the tree of nodes to the will of the user at anytime, any moment in any step of the production. And in my opinion that shouldn't be the case. The bad part of this is that it is quicker to start from scratch. It does connect but nothing works, as if nothing is connected. Wouldn't be a problem if pass through node would connect to the desired node and worked, but for some unknown reason to me it just doesn't work. Lightworks automatically connects the node I need to connect to another node to pass through node, but it really has no reason to do that. I have a very simple task at hand, I need to use one effect instead of another, I have it all set up and just need to connect one of the video track clip with one other effect to that new node instead of another node, but there is this pass through node in a way and it ruins my task. I am wondering if there is any way to get rid of pass through node? Lightworks node system has it's stubborn character that starts to annoy the hell out of me, I wish it was dumb system as it is in most node based editors, where the one can do whatever the one wishes with nodes and they just connect where directed. The event usually ends when one female passes out in her own vomit or when one of their boyfriends shows up." The tone of Urban Dictionary's definition is derisive: "A planned event, usually held at a cheesy Irish pub or dance club, where groups of females dress provocatively, flirt insessantly, dance badly, and accept free drinks from desparate single men. It's simply girls' night or girls' night out. One term that is used very, very often is not very exciting and has no sexual connotations. Meanwhile " babe fest" didn't have enough data. However, "sausage fest" is common enough that I couldn't imagine someone unironically calling an event that, but there are actual taco fests like Taco Fest Montreal and "clambake" also refers to literally baking clams (popular in New England).Īs well I looked up some other suggestions on Google Trends in the USA and found out there's a Melon Fest in Michigan, Clam Fest in Maine, and an annual Clam Jam party in Connecticut. There's also fish market, which is about as popular as clamfest, but seems more vulgar. Urban Dictionary also has entries for taco party and clamfest, a less-popular entry for melon fest, and an entry for clam jam, though it's primarily listed as being the female equivalent of cock block. I heard this club brought out the hot shoegazer boys, but it's a real clambake in here. The female corollary to the term sausagefest a bar or club where the crowd is surprisingly almost exclusively female, especially when you are looking to meet men. "Dude, that Catholic girls' school is a total taco fest." Can be any place inundated with females, where few or no men exist basically a girls' club. All the guys that are there are getting old. I heard she stopped going because Xday is such a taco fest. Taco fest and clambake are the only two I found with their own Wiktionary pages, with "taco fest" being the only one linked from sausagefest and the best-cited, for example: Unfortunately, we don't get much from checking the Google ngrams for "melon fest" (none found), "clam fest" (none found), "sausage fest" (started being used in late 90s), and "clam bake" (overwhelmingly popular for about 200 years, but impossible to tell whether any of these uses were referring to anything other than food). and even that could have been posted by a gamer. Las Vegas Pool Party Girls: thats like a total clam fest. I only found one use not related to gaming: My god the local game story is such a clam fest, as soon as guy walks in he gets swarmed by loud obnoxious gamer chicks.īased on the quotes I found, however, this seems like it might be nerd-slang, used in gamer circles more than anything else. We jokingly said she'd have to play a guy because our party was becoming a real clam-fest (we're up to 6 girls 1 guy). Not sure what sort of board gaming places you're going to, but my board game nights are a total clam-fest. If I had known the party would be a total clam fest I would have played a guy. Their half of the island was a sausage party, while my half of the island was a complete clam fest,Ģ8 y/o male here, and it seems Like it's a total clam fest, this fandom. Clam fest (qv ) would be the most direct conceptual equivalent here, so would make sense even to those only familiar with the former term. See it, say it, sign it | letter sounds | asl alphabet . While software has advanced a great deal, there are really many things which can not effectively be accomplished in vector images. Within many vector apps raster interpolation and scaling is not something which happens or if it does, it doesn't happen with excellent results. However, doing this ultimately creates embedded raster images. Yes, you can use raster effects in many graphics applications to blur or "undefine" the edges of something. Vector graphics do not excel at creating soft edges areas or shapes which blend into other soft-edged shapes. Vector data is, in general, better suited for items which have hard edges. While vector images have many advantages, they also have shortcomings. TL DR So you use pixel graphics because its easier, faster and more understandable. For example liquify is sort of a vector effect on the pixel based data. In fact there is a really fuzzy division between raster and vector and often you intermix the methods so that its hard to say whats vector and what is not. So combined with easier discrete effects its often much more practical than vectorizing your medium. Third, pixel manipulation is MUCH easier to understand, as it approximates much better how real world mediums work. Again though this is not a limiting factor just a practical factor. So things like blur, can be computationally expensive for the vector engine. Many processes get much easier to do when you have discrete data samples. In practice discretisation has many benefits in the computational realm. Second, most sensors allow you only to do pixel based captures, since sampling is discrete. Image 1: 3D graphics are sort of vector images, rasterization is often slow and needs special tools. 3d renders show the limitations of your rendering speed as many renders to print size take hours to do. In fact 3D graphics is also a vector graphic data. This rendering process gets slower the more data you have. You can do a lot of things with vector graphics, eventually however the vector graphics need to be rendered to pixels, rasters etc. “We’re not trying to design for all of us, we’re trying to design for each of us,” said Bryce Johnson, a senior inclusivity designer on Microsoft’s Xbox team. The team cultivated new relationships, like with Quadstick, to bring entirely new devices types to Xbox. The Designed for Xbox team engaged partners like LogitechG and PDP, to optimize their devices to work with the Xbox Adaptive Controller. To design the controller, the project team turned to the experts, consulting with gamers, accessibility advocates and nonprofits that work with disabled gamers. Disabled gamers would get greater flexibility, and the controller would be a more elegant solution than an unwieldy add-on with wires hanging off in various directions. The introduction of the Copilot feature in Xbox was instrumental in driving the shift from an adaptive device to standalone unit that acted as a hub. The device was further refined at Microsoft’s 2016 hackathon, and momentum for the project began building within the company. The project was recognized by leadership at the hackathon and led a different employee team to create another device for Microsoft’s company-wide hackathon later that year, a unit that attached to an Xbox controller and allowed users who had difficulty navigating a traditional controller to plug in additional buttons and switches. Working in consultation with Jones, the team developed a gaming device that used Kinect motion-sensing technology to track a gamer’s movements and translate them as if they were inputs from a traditional Xbox Wireless Controller. There was a hackathon coming up at Microsoft’s 2015 Ability Summit, so a group of employees decided to put together a team with the goal of developing a solution for Warfighter Engaged. The engineer, Matt Hite, reached out to the organization’s founder, Ken Jones, and learned how difficult it was for injured veterans - triple amputees, quadriplegics, vets with traumatic brain injuries - to access the world of gaming, and how time-consuming it was for Jones, a mechanical engineer who started the organization in 2012, to modify equipment for them. The genesis of the Xbox Adaptive Controller goes back to 2014, when a Microsoft engineer was scrolling through Twitter and noticed a photo of a custom gaming controller made by Warfighter Engaged, a nonprofit organization that provides gaming devices to wounded vets.
